Big Red fishing on Light Tackle

Let’s see the Biloxi Ms. Charter Boat WHIPASNAPA has sure nuff been stretching some strings an bending the sticks!!! Which leads to a pretty good reel screammmmmin for sure!!! Especially when a nice 30 inch red has something to do with it. Doin it with a lil Mitchell light tackle spin cast loaded with 12lb test and might make you do the JIG!!!
Beautiful weather, an some super fine folks from Grenada, Brandon, Gautier,Ms., Atlanta,Ga. and Nashville,Tn. an beyond. Lead to some super duper boating adventures this week. An yes, I didn’t get my report in last week, SO WHAT, FIRE ME!!!. But last couple weeks still been filling the box. Been able to get some really nice strong, plentiful, an nice size whitetrout, groundmullet, gafftops, an rays (bunch of rays an gafftops running around) to get us started. To me that’s a good fish to get started with as any. Plenty fish action soon as it hits the water, kinda gets everybody in a good mood. As we get to know everybody so to speak..Out at the Island still few sharks, Mackeral (spanish an kings) but the big reds eluded us the last couple weeks out there. BUT we found some dang 30in. ones Inshore. An on the lil stuff O thats fun for sure!!! Actually the last couple we just stayed Inshore an filled up a bucket of them super charged whitetrout then several BIG Reds an BIG Blackdrum. A Sweet Plump juicy piece of that fresh dead, wormed up on a sharp lead head in about a 3/8oz layed on bottom in the sweet spot was going to lead to something BIG!!! Get the net!!! Get the net!!! Get the Net!!! Man thats a huge fish my arms hurt:)!!! O take my Picture!!! I have become a pretty big fan of the light tackle tug of war, AGAIN!!! Been having a blast, good folks seem to be visiting S. Ms, an thank yall for boating w/ me..
Getting geared up to hammer them SOW SNAPPER Ya’ll!!! Not much left open as of now have like 10 days left to book for the snapper so if you want to go getcha a few.. HOLLER asap!!!! It Really looks to be a strong year out there.. Seeing some huge fish out scouting around.

Couple days inshore, couple days offshore !

Just the way Capt. Robert “Earl” Mc Daniel likes it. The Ms. Charter boat Whipasnapa loves its month of May. Winds start relaxing, not to hot, not to cold, fishing is excellent, practically any species a person cares to catch is available an hungry. But its the Cobia that really gets her juiced..She just gets so excited when everyone starts scram-b=ling around hollering COBIA! COBIA! Everyone starts barking orders like there’s no tomorrow. Running side to side, front to back throwing poles all around, anxiously grabbing gaffs but her wide open fish stance allows it to be done with such grace (well kinda sorta). Once the beast is tamed, slammed on the deck an starts slapping her all around, that’s when she breaks out with them lil GOOSEYS an that lil :)!!! O yea you fixin take you lil ride on the WHIPASNAPA —–!!!But!! I said BUT!!! You ought to try to live with her when them dang (ROOKIES!!!) miss like 2 out of three!!!OMG!!!
Mr. Baker, an ol regular fish slayer, from Georgia that has taken a very kind liking to the Whipasnapa fished 2 days early week. I really like them short early morn. one on one inshore light tackle excursions. Good one on one friendly conversation an competition. These two were with a very top of the line Gentleman… Even nice enough to let me bait his hook, drop his line down, tell him he’s getting a bite, holler set the hook, net his fish, an still let me catch more than him. My goodness at the excuses he can come up with as why. Strong bite on the Red an Black drum pulled out them wonderful :)s. a few nice sheep’s, flounder an white trout mixed in, kept the action going as we shook each others string. A really nice pack of some fine tasty filets are heading back to Georgia, along with a great many heart felt memories!!! Thanks Mr. Baker I do welcome the challenge ANYTIME!!!…
Now the BIG Water Adventure! You talking about 2 fine days to be on a boat :). (as if there aint any) Wow!!! Moon setting, Beautiful sun rising, calm seas, 2- 250 yamees purring behind you, that big pretty sexy Whipasnapa under your hind end. Everyone just looking around :)ing. As I stand up, step out so to get them warm Gulf breezes blown through my hair, I think wow!!! I am 1 blessed young man!!! an join the :)ing!! Mr. Tonys 3 man team Sat, was lil skimpy on the bring home box. Not that they didn’t do some hard core batt-ling. The first few rigs, the dang Red Snapper was just way to hungry to let us catch much more than Reds. We Just kept plucking away, cause cobia was the target. Found a few here an there an actually managed to get a hook in every thing we saw. But idk what happened, you will have to take that up with them. I mean really!!:) Current to strong, an water to clear to do much damage on the Mangroves. Mostly the current hampered the cobia catchin as well. Bout a dozen triggers, several spanish, some mangrove an a nice respectable cobia did get the ride tho…I know we fished hard, did some good battles an had alot of fun!!!
Sunday, the Durwood crew of 4, did fairly good on their table fair. A nice 55lb cobia started things off. A few mangroves, few scamp an black grouper, as well as trigger an spanish made the crews take home box pretty sporty. Some mighty mouth watering looking filets went back around Jackson for sure. Steady battles all weekend, lead to alot of grunting, cussing, fussing, cramps, high fivin, an of course those :)s. The John Brown Red Snapper!! Wow!! They like rookies I mean (roaches), they everywhere!!! You talking bout some fine Red Snapper brought boat side an set free… Learnin alot tho, getting the hand on few fish like some of the other Grouper (Scamp,Warsaw,Black) the triggers some the other snapper as well. O an of course them Honey holes keeping popping up as well.. Found some sure nuff sows, an some really nice Gags (which remains closed) till June. Good Job Team just playin” Anyway Ya’ll, its all good here in S.Ms. an beyound especially out younder aboard that Darn Whipasnapa…

what you waiting for here is your invitation:

An a Steady flow of BIG fish stories continues.

Early week we ran couple them action packed lil inshore/offshore combo trips. A bachelor get together crew, an a boy/girl, boy/girl crew, really made for a couple great times aboard the Biloxi, Ms. Charter boat WHIPASNAPA! The bachelors, hit a few those huge fighting, cramp ya forearms, line pulling, drag ya around the boat, make ya sweat BIG ol’ Dang Sharks an Reds. Several light tackle line stripping, pole bowing, make ya say dang Spanish Mackerals really livened things up as well!! Both the early week trips had a dozen are so Drum an a Flounder are 2 with some Whitetrouts for a pretty dang action packed knee slappin GOOD OL’ TIMES, make you scream and holler an pay $50 couple of trips for sure. Idk
Scored three BIG ol’ super dupper, heart beat revving, getcha so excited, make ya pee ya pants, jank ya around the boat, low 40 Cobias for the weekend guest. (Good job team)!!! A bird, A light tackle 30 min tug of war, slug feast by Mr. Forrest on a crackya back Jack was a highlight. That the fish won,by the way. (Rookies!) A St. Record Bonnet head shark Boarded the WhipaSnapa to make the highlight reel as well.
I really don’t even want to talk about the 4 cobias that was missed, are call any names!! But Seriously, at least 4 misses an couple more blow bys, that didn’t even get a bait tossed at’um!!! BIG FISH at that!! ROOKIES!!! Tellya the dang truth, just make ya want to drink sometimes!!! … nawl I’ve learned especially with that ol’ brown fish, you will lose a few, (can’t catchum all) especially when you dealing with ROOKIES!!! The cobia spawn is peaking out. A lot of 30 to 40lb fish being caught. A few 50 to 70s were brought in for the shootout. So if you smell what I’m stepping in? I have a few days open next week..
Anyway its been a very action packed, joyful, memorable week. Another large variety of nice quality fish, that filled the boxes an touched the hearts. We gonna soak some wounds, replace the drags, sew up a few eyes, an rest a day r 2 so we will be bright eyed an bushy tailed when ya get here…

Fishing has been strong an steady for our lovely guest.

Mid week the Whipasnapa charter boat was honored to have my dad aboard. What a pleasure to return just a lil bit to such a wonderful dad. Although he pretty much is along strictly for the boat ride, he does still enjoy a brief stretching of the string. Then a short break (as he says) is in order.
How rewarding to look over an see that lil twinkle in his eye, as I said alright here we go, and showered down on them twin Yamaha 250 4 strokes. Thanks dad for introducing me to the great outdoors. Which I have made my very challenging yet rewarding way of life. Dad brought his brother down, who was in pursuit of a nice cobia. Something he had never caught. So, a chumming we shall go!
We hadn’t chummed long an Uncle James was getting lil bored so I gave him one the lil light tackle weapons, baited with a small chunk of fresh dead. Told him just drop it back behind the motors and see what’s eating the chum. Well, bout as quick as it hit bottom he pulled up a nice lil hardtail. Which are good for a pull and excellent bait. After bout 4 or 5 of those I heard something setting off the clicker on a free line I had hangin on side of boat an dropped it. As I was investigating it, it looked to be a cobia had grabbed the lil whitetrout an only scuffed it up. Hummm? I think that was a cobia, an bout that time unck was reeling in another lil hardtail that got attacked an grabbed by something an ripped it off the hook!! Hummm? Cobia? Ycertainly! An there she is right behind the motor. Told Uncle James hurry come grab this lil whitetrout an flip it to her! Boom! o its on:) seems this lil cobia wasn’t ready to stankda grease yet tho. This cobia totally an quickly dominate an schooled ol Unck. Under the boat an around the motors to freedom:( But about 10:30 Uncle James got redemption a sporty 35lber. Him an dad caught about 3/4 a bucket of pompano lurking back in the slick that sure put the :)s on as well. Plenty of them BIG bullreds an shark played tug of war end week.
Mr. Jack (ol Georgia guest) was doing some pretty heavy perspiring battling the reds. But once again the winds picked up mighty heavy for the weekend. Although a strong bite on blackdrum, whitetrout, croaker an few flounder made our Sat. guest put on Happy faces as well.:))) Basically in a nut shell fishing been strong an steady with a large variety of fish being hooked an reeled boat side. Some set free in the water some being set free in other ways an form (so to speak):)

Finally a cobia makes its way to my belly!

Some more beautiful weather along the South Mississippi shores has finally produced a nice keeper cobia for the Biloxi Ms. charter boat Whipasnapa. Big reds, sharks, jacks an piles of spanish and King mackeral, entertained as we anticipated the next cobia to come up the chum slick, or for the screams of the reels to get everyone’s ol ticker ticking at a very dramatic tick.

Only one problem, 2 of the cobia, happened to show an hit at the same time! That didn’t work out so good. One eluded our attempt to capture the beast. But luckily (I suppose) it was the smaller of the two. Sure felt good to give out a round of ol high fives thou. Just breaking the ice was a great feeling. Especially since it seems I was getting to be one of the last to catch one. Yeah, trust me these fellows round here, they like to rub it in. Especially; when it comes to the cobia. They all ask me “You get one yet? You caught any cobia?” Well we have caught 4, which 3 were just short of making the 33inch mark. Anyway a nice fat 42 lber(has give us some redemption) an did make for some surenuff :)s. O an some happy belly’s 2.

Another nice 40 come up through the master chum slick about noon. Which the other action was about 7:30, not long after we anchored. So quite some time had passed before the next sighting. Yes, just a sighting, passed just feet from the boat in the slick 4 times. Yet no one could entice this madame to take their offerings.

The spanish on the lil light tackle spin cast helped pass some time,an were surenuff the 🙂 producers. A bright chartreuse jig bounced around in the chum, produced an exhilarating drag ripping run bout every time. A free lined poggey or croaker drifted back a little further(in the chum slick) would get the ol mighty Kings attention also.

The winds picked up on the weekend, which kept us inshore for one, an actually grounded us Sunday. The crew sat. did manage a good mess of whitetrout, Sheepshead, blackdrums an ground mullets. They elected to take a variety sampler (of the catch) to one of our favorite lil restaurants and have it cooked up for lunch. They only had 2 thumbs but gave it 4 thumbs up.. Sorry the pictures are down a little someone dropped the camera in the live well!! : (

It’s All about the Reds this week!

The Biloxi, Ms. charter boat WhipaSnapa (an it’s lovely guest), has seriously been hammering some huge, hard fighting reds. Just beyond the Mississippi Sound. Out at the beautiful, an very fishy, Horn Island.
You talkin bout a fight, them dang Big ol Bull Reds play one heck of a game of tug of war. PULL UP REEL DOWN!!!!!!:) We’ve had another large mixture of great folks aboard, Bachelor party’s, families, our great Air Force crew, an more. Mostly for the 6 hour combo trips, the past couple weeks. We hit the inshore light tackle stuff for an hour are so catching up 30- 40 nice croaker along with a few drum an white trout. Then make a short, very relaxing boat ride, especially aboard the roomy WhipaSnapa!!! (It just rides so sweet)!!:) out to one of the Barrier Islands off the Ms. shores to get our chum on! Which the past couple weeks Ol Horn Island has been the secret spot. And well, some string pulling shonuff(w/a few those very descriptive words) slipping out every now an then!!! Pretty good mixture of sharks-(blacktip, spinners, atlantic sharpnose), king mackeral, jack cravelle, etc…. But its been a very consistent catch of huge smile pulling Reds. An a bunch of em! That had the WhipaSnapa’s great guest scrambling to get the reel that was screaming!!! So they could be the one to lock an load. They were at times double and tripled up w/ the big ol reds an :)s!
We were chumming with poggies. Our baits were a nice selection of golden croakers that were anchored on bottom w/about a 2oz sinker rigged Carolina style.. Kings, sharks ,an Jacks were mostly on the croaker as well, but freelined on the surface just behind the transom in the amazing chum slick, produced by our master baiter Mr. Austin F. Might have to replace the drags on the sticks after this week.

Moan we saved a few for you an your great WhipaSnapa boating adventure !! Thanks ya’ll lovin every minute of it…

So what you waiting for here is your invitation:

A Fishing we have gone!!!

Shoo Wee the Biloxi, Ms. charter boat WhipaSnapa has been in high demand. Running all them trips now! From inshore light tackle, inshore/offshore combos to bluewater and sightseeing. That 29ft openfish with restroom an shade, plenty storage an live wells out the ying yang sure makes for a good day on the water..
People from Minn, NY, GA, WI, CA, and Ms, an so on. Have pulled in a many good fish this week from ground mullet, white trout, flounder and still a few sheeps, blackdrum, sharks, red drum, amberjack, mangrove snapper, grouper, spanish mackerel, blues, an so on..
Always look forward to spring break an get the younger crews and large variety of great guest aboard that darn WhipaSnapa. For some great water adventures. Some really great fishing this week. Couple of the trips the quantity was down but pulled off quality. And from the smiles I seen this week it was some good times for sure. An prob as much fun for me as anyone.. The bait shops have had a lil trouble getting live shrimp but the poggeys have shown an of course always plenty fresh dead, which once the croaker an hardheads show, live shrimp can be wasted. But the fresh dead will produce good numbers an them live poggeys will get’em for ya.
The water temp has reached the low 70*’s which starts a lot of transactions and spawning of sorts. Ground mullet and white trout have shown up and a few good specks being caught too. Nice red drum and sharks out by the Islands. But as of this report no cobia : ( But maybe by next report! So stay tuned are better yet:)

Getcha self on down here, load up on the ol’ WhipaSnapa an let’s get it on!!!

Many thanks to all and God Bless!!!!

Let’s Go Fishing!!!

Well, hope everyone had a very joyous an blessed Holiday season. Now all (BS) aside Let’s Go Fishing!!!!! The WhipaSnapa Charter Boat awaits. Very rested and Very ready to go get’em!!

Sheepshead, drum(red and black) with an occasional flounder still dominates the catch this time of year. They have been very steady, bait shops have kept us supplied regularly with nice live shrimp, that really helps up the tally.

The A,B,C gang of Peterson’s fished Friday with a couple buckets full of the hard fightin, great tastin, hard to clean, drag rippin, smile gettin, sheepsheads over the side of that darn ol’ WhipaSnapa.

Beautiful spring-like weather has made the trips very enjoyable, dipping the live shrimp down the side of the bridge was sure to get engulfed by something that stretched the string and made the drag sing. And that always gets the same reaction, a great big ol smile. Which makes this Captain very glad to be back on the water again servin’em up!

Shane, Barry and Tim fished Monday, from Huntsville,Al., the Alabama gang struggled some at first but managed to get the hang of it. They tried setting the hook from the toes or something. But stayed patient an positive an managed to pull out a couple dozen nice sheepshead an a nice Blackdrum. They choose to take a couple of the filets up the road to one of the local restaurants for lunch, while I cleaned up the rest . They seemed to have enjoyed eatin’em as well as catching’em (Good eats)!!!

So moan down the weather’s been warm an so has the WhipaSnapa!!! Come see what adventure awaits you!!

Many thanks to all and God Bless!!!!
